Writer/Content Strategist II

About This Role

This role involves shaping and refining NerdWallet's student loan content, helping consumers make informed financial decisions. The position requires producing high-quality articles, guides, and reviews, reporting on industry trends, and optimizing existing content for relevance and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze student loan lenders using NerdWallet’s rubric, translating complex data into clear, accessible content
• Research, report, and author well-sourced articles, guides, and updates to position NerdWallet as a trusted authority in student loans
• Utilize analytics tools to assess content performance, making data-driven improvements to increase reach, engagement, and impact
• Maintain and optimize existing student loan pages to ensure information is current, accurate, and relevant
• Collaborate with internal teams—including marketing, product, and communications—to align messaging and adapt to policy or market changes
• Apply SEO best practices to enhance discoverability and search rankings of content
• Monitor, measure, and report on content performance metrics, using insights to refine content strategies
• Serve as a subject-matter authority, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and consumer-focus in all student loan messaging

Requirements

• 5+ years of editorial experience
• 3+ years focused on personal finance or related fields
• Proven track record of thought leadership and ownership mentality in content creation
• Exceptional writing, reporting, and communication skills
• Experience interviewing sources, managing content updates, and analyzing data sets
• Familiarity with SEO best practices and proven ability to enhance content visibility and performance
• Strong collaboration skills
• Proficiency in tools such as spreadsheets, Google Docs, and analytics platforms
• Ability to manage a mix of evergreen, review, and news content while working cross-functionally
• Passion for continuous self-improvement and openness to constructive feedback

Qualifications

• 5+ years of editorial experience, with at least 3 years focused on personal finance or related fields

Nice to Have

• Previous experience covering student loans or a high-level understanding of federal and private student loan mechanisms
