About This Role

This executive leadership role directs and oversees all Human Resources functions for The City University of New York's 26 colleges and schools, focusing on policy administration, HR systems modernization, and talent management. The Vice Chancellor will lead the implementation and optimization of CUNYWork, a new ERP system powered by Workday, while promoting diversity and professional development across the University.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inspiring, ethical, and effective leadership to advance University Human Resources.
  • Lead the University-wide implementation of the HR component of CUNYWork ERP system.
  • Provide executive oversight for post-implementation stabilization and continuous improvement of CUNYWork.
  • Serve as a change agent promoting continuous improvement through streamlined business processes and updated HR policies.
  • Promote best and emerging HR practices across the University and assist campuses in policy interpretation and operationalization.
  • Develop best practices to support CUNY’s future growth and changing workforce.
  • Direct functional areas including Benefits, Payroll, Workforce Planning, Recruitment and Diversity, Project Management, and Professional Development.
  • Provide consultative guidance on HR policies and procedures to campus-based HR professionals.
  • Oversee and manage the Executive Compensation Plan.
  • Lead professional development and performance assessment programs.
  • Create an environment of professionalism, respect, and civility.

Requirements

  • Minimum eight years' related experience in an executive position.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing human resources in a complex organization.
  • Experience leading or supporting the implementation of a large-scale ERP system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree minimum, Advanced degree in human resources or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum eight years' related experience, preferably 10+ years of progressively responsible Human Resources leadership experience in higher education, non-profit or other complex organizations.

  • Advanced degree in human resources or related discipline.

  • Knowledge of payroll operations, health and welfare benefits, classification and compensation, and EEO/affirmative action regulations.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-wide system implementations and large-scale business process transformation initiatives.
  • Experience working in an HR environment supported by Workday.
  • Executive-level skills for human resources portfolio management.
  • Knowledge of Federal, New York State and New York City employment and labor laws, including civil service laws and practices.
  • Experience working effectively within a large, complex university system and negotiating with constituencies.
  • Experience with re-engineering/re-organizing benefits and payroll business processes.
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, consultation, presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Exemplary judgment, ethical standards, and analytical acumen.
  • Ability to influence people and establish positive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
