About This Role

The Veterinary Assistant provides essential support to veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, ensuring quality care for patients and exceptional service for clients. This role involves maintaining equipment, assisting with examinations and procedures, and handling administrative duties at PetVet Care Centers' Valencia Veterinary Center.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain equipment
  • Feed, exercise, and groom patients
  • Prepare and sanitize surgery suites
  • Restrain and handle patients
  • Perform clerical and administrative work
  • Greet patients and owners, take vital signs
  • Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by LVTs
  • Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
  • Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
  • Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, etc.)
  • Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain controlled drug documentation
  • Communicate positively with clients and educate them about plans
  • Maintain hospital cleanliness, including kennels and facilities
  • Bath and care for patients staying overnight
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Respond respectfully and with urgency to DVM or LVT directions

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a veterinary environment
  • Ability to restrain animals
  • Ability to fill prescriptions
  • Ability to monitor sedation procedures
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors
  • Ability to lift or carry moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds)

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years' experience in a veterinary environment, successfully performing all duties of this position
