Veterinary Assistant

About This Role

This role involves providing excellent medical care to patients and phenomenal customer care to pet owners in a full-service veterinary hospital. Veterinary Assistants are responsible for fostering cohesion and motivation within the practice while ensuring patient needs are prioritized.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, escort to exam rooms, obtain weight and vital signs, and record in electronic medical records
• Collect thorough patient histories and document patient visits in EMRs
• Assist doctors with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, and handle and dispense medications at the direction of the veterinarian
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain client/patient records
• Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist with anesthetizing patients
• Monitor patients safely under anesthesia while monitoring vital parameters and during recovery
• Perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients including injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous fluid therapy
• Keep hospital environment neat and clean and perform regular cleaning based on necessity and maintenance schedule

Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor with professionalism during emotional/stressful situations
• Telephone and computer skills
• Ability to be a team player, learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change

Qualifications

• At least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice or sufficient relatable animal care experience
