This role involves leading a manufacturing department with a focus on safety, performance, and continuous improvement. The manager will drive waste reduction using Lean methodologies and be responsible for setting goals, developing talent, and overseeing daily production performance within a foundry environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the department with focus on safety, performance metrics, and continuous improvement
- Set value stream goals and drive Kaizen events, value stream mapping, and improvement plans
- Maintain strong floor presence and promote hands‑on problem solving
- Support new product development by defining operational requirements
- Oversee daily production performance and drive improvements through MDI boards, root cause analysis, and countermeasures
- Ensure a clean, safe work environment; conduct 5S and safety training
- Develop and monitor leader standard work, quality standards, and layered process audits
- Manage value stream resources, budgets, inventory accuracy, build schedules, and scrap disposition
- Oversee scheduling, staffing recommendations, cross‑training, and skill matrix updates
- Manage salaried and hourly staff, including performance reviews, coaching, disciplinary actions, and talent development (IDPs, career discussions, mentoring)
- Represent the company in union meetings, grievances, and negotiations
- Ensure team adherence to company policies and procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- 7+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
- Standard computer and software skills (Office Suite, ERP etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- 7+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
Nice to Have
- Engineering, Science or Business degree
- Experience managing a mix of salaried and hourly direct reports
- Foundry experience
- Experience with working in a union environment, including labor negotiations and grievance proceedings
- Experience mentoring, coaching and developing talent and future leaders within a manufacturing environment
- Lean manufacturing experience and certification
- Ability to lead and coordinate multi-functional team projects
