Utility Worker

About This Role

Install, repair, maintain, and operate water distribution facilities and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient water services for customers. This role involves performing various tasks including leak surveys, flow tests, and inspections while operating company vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, maintain and operate water distribution facilities, grounds and associated equipment
• Perform leak surveys, flow tests, line locations, water quality tests and inspections
• Keep daily records of time and material, following Veolia and OSHA safety requirements
• Operate company vehicles to travel to job sites
• Use basic computer skills to send and receive emails, access work orders, and utilize company software
• Operate or learn to operate a backhoe / mini excavator for backfilling, grading, and excavation
• Operate or learn to operate a Vacuum Excavation Truck
• Obtain CDL permit within 6 months and proper CDL endorsements within 1 year
• Use various tools, equipment, fittings and pipe (PVC, Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Asbestos Cement, Plastic, Copper)
• Learn service / main repair and installation, including fire hydrants, main valves, and services
• Perform valve inspection / maintenance and annual flushing and fire hydrant inspection
• Maintain good customer relations and communicate effectively with the public

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• Ability to read maps and locate valves for shutdowns
• Ability to complete all forms and paperwork (physical and electronic)
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervision and the public
• Ability to operate motors fueled by gasoline, diesel or gaseous fuels, and use hand tools
• Good physical condition for hand excavation and lifting up to 50 pounds
• Possess valid Pennsylvania driver's license
• Ability to obtain CDL permit within 6 months and CDL endorsements within 1 year

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

Nice to Have

• Experience using locating devices to locate service lines and mains
• Backhoe / Mini Excavator / Vac Truck operating experience
