Transportation Construction Technician 4

About This Role

This role will serve as an Independent Assurance Sampling (IAS) and Testing Technician, responsible for obtaining IAS from projects in the Prescott Region. The technician will monitor project compliance with ADOT's Quality Assurance Program and ensure sampling and testing adhere to ADOT's Materials Testing Manual and Standard Specifications.

Responsibilities

• Obtain IAS from projects in the Prescott Region
• Monitor project compliance with ADOT's Quality Assurance Program
• Ensure sampling and testing is performed in accordance with ADOT's Materials Testing Manual and Standard Specifications
• Monitor test results and work with other project labs to resolve discrepancies
• Coordinate the sampling of highway construction materials
• Verify calibration of testing equipment and maintain project materials records
• Perform laboratory testing on aggregates, soils, asphaltic concrete, and Portland cement concrete
• Generate laboratory test summaries, reports, spreadsheets and research
• Travel to construction projects throughout the region to sample construction materials
• Observe construction technicians performing test procedures in the field for conformance with ADOT test methods
• Inspect equipment used in construction projects to ensure it meets agency requirements
• Input and analyze laboratory test results in the FAST computer database
• Solve problems related to non-correlating test results between labs

Requirements

• Knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques used in sampling and testing highway construction materials in accordance with ADOT Standards Specifications, Construction Special Provisions, ADOT Materials Testing Manual and ADOT Policies and Procedure Directives
• Knowledge of Independent Assurance and Correlation sampling and testing
• Ability to verify construction inspection
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a variety of material testing equipment and inspection measuring devices
• Knowledge of equipment used in construction of highway projects
• Ability to evaluate and interpret completed material testing results
• Skill in work scheduling and management
• Skill in analysis and preparation of data
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations using a variety of computer applications
• Ability to ensure that materials, equipment, and procedures used comply with agency standards

Qualifications

• Five years of construction or materials testing experience.
