This role involves coordinating the placement of all patient admissions and transfers according to clinical standards at Saint Alphonsus. The nurse will ensure appropriate patient bed assignments, determine observation or inpatient status, and coordinate physician consults and patient transport.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the placement of all patient admissions (elective and emergent) and transfers in accordance with clinical standards and guidelines
- Ensure the patient is admitted to the most appropriate bed available using admission criteria
- Determine if the patient is a candidate for observation or inpatient status
- Contact physician specialty groups for physician-to-physician consults from outlying facilities
- Coordinate the transport of patients to the facility with Life Flight and robotic consults
- Know and understand bed availability on all care units and coordinate inpatient placement
- Navigate the robotic consult protocol and determine appropriate physicians for outside consults
- Assist in coordinating air or ground transport for patients
- Communicate with managers, charge nurses, and clinical coordinators to ensure adequate staffing during high census
- Monitor overall medical center capacity status and coordinate interventions during periods of peak census or limited services
Requirements
- Current RN license
- Minimum of two years of Registered Nurse experience
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of Registered Nurse experience is required. Previous leadership roles preferred.
