Temp Seasonal Park Ranger

About This Role

This Temporary Seasonal Park Ranger position performs general security and parking lot operations in Spokane City Parks. The role involves routine duties with independent judgment required for emergencies, ensuring park property is protected and visitors are safe.

Responsibilities

• Patrol City parks on foot, bicycle or in a motorized vehicle to prevent damage to park property and danger to park users
• Enforce appropriate codes and ordinances
• Provide first aid response for injuries and accidents within the park; request professional response as needed
• Investigate suspicious activities within the park; prevent infractions of park rules and call for police assistance if circumstances warrant
• Participate in the enforcement of Parks and Recreation Department parking rules
• Assist in handling parking disputes
• Write and review security-related documents, such as reports of daily activities, irregularities, and incidents
• Collect fees from parking kiosks and summarize daily receipts
• Respond to park alarms and call outs
• Assist in the repair and restocking of parking kiosks and other applicable parking equipment

Requirements

• Knowledge of local laws and ordinances applicable to park security patrol work
• Knowledge of park security and basic first aid methods, practices, and procedures
• Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions under adverse conditions
• Ability to obtain information through questioning and observation and to remember names, faces, and details of incidents
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
• Ability to deal courteously, but firmly, with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
• Ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents and to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
• Ability to use basic math to perform simple calculations
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
