Police Officer - Certified

About This Role

Protect and serve the community of Spokane as a Certified Police Officer. Patrol designated areas, respond to incidents, enforce laws, and assist the public while upholding public safety.

Responsibilities

• Patrol a designated area on foot or in a radio and computer equipped vehicle to preserve law and order
• Prevent and discover the commission of crime, direct traffic and enforce traffic and parking regulations
• Answer calls and investigate complaints involving accidents, fires, misdemeanors and felonies
• Investigate suspicious activities, administer first aid, interview witnesses, gather information and evidence
• Make arrests, prepare reports, and testify as witness in court
• Exercise powers of arrest and control, defend self and use force and deadly force
• Enforce motor vehicle laws, operate vehicle under emergency conditions and provide emergency assistance
• Respond to crime scenes and perform criminal investigations, participate in special operations
• Advise public on laws and ordinances, provide general information and assist the public

Requirements

• Completed high school or equivalent
• Completed the Washington State Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Academy
• Valid WSCJTC BLEA certification
• 20 years of age at application and 21 years of age at time of appointment
• Within normal weight range for height
• Valid driver's license

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent. Completion of the Washington State Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
• No prior law enforcement experience is required.
