About This Role

Manage the in-house tax function for Menzies Aviation in North America, including tax planning, payments, and filing obligations. This role involves day-to-day tax operations as well as strategic tax profile management, working closely with internal departments and external advisors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day functions for all North American taxes (federal, state, local, franchise, excise, fuel)
  • Manage and continually assess the Company’s tax processes, implementing necessary improvements
  • Assist the Director of Tax in long-term tax planning and strategy
  • Review monthly/quarterly filing of excise fuel taxes (federal and state)
  • Assist with preparation and review of federal, state & local income/franchise returns
  • Assist with review of state & local business licenses and annual reports
  • Manage industry-specific filings and outside audits
  • Prepare internal documentation for transfer pricing, foreign tax compliance, tax projection modeling, and special projects
  • Manage government audits related to income/franchise taxes
  • Research tax laws and regulations, assessing potential impact on the North American business
  • Review income tax provisions and BEAT planning/compliance
  • Support the Director of Tax in all matters and lead the US tax department in their absence

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Master’s degree in taxation
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 6-9 years’ combined experience in public accounting and industry
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, pivot tables & VLOOKUP’s)
  • Experience with CCH Access Tax preparation software
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters Checkpoint tax research software
  • Experience with federal consolidated tax returns
  • Experience with state unitary combined, nexus consolidated, and separate income tax returns
  • Knowledge of Base Erosion and Anti-Abuse Tax (BEAT) compliance and planning
  • Knowledge of Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income (GILTI)
  • Knowledge of Internal Revenue Code Section 163(j) interest expense limitation
  • Knowledge of United States and Canada Transfer Pricing
  • Knowledge of federal and state fuel excise tax credits
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. international and foreign tax regulations, including tax accounting and compliance
  • Proven ability to conduct in-depth tax research and develop sound tax positions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s degree in taxation
  • 6-9 years’ combined experience in public accounting and industry
