About This Role

Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse, ensuring a safe operating room environment and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing the operating room with anticipated instruments, supplies, and equipment for each surgical procedure.
  • Demonstrate aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, performing surgical handscrub, setting up procedures, and maintaining the sterile field intraoperatively.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members to maintain equipment and ensure supplies are available for surgical procedures.
  • Assist in positioning and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase.
  • Responsible for the care of instruments/equipment during the intraoperative and postoperative phases.
  • Follow written procedures for steam and sterrad sterilization.
  • Consult with other staff members when unfamiliar with equipment, instruments, or procedures.
  • Demonstrate competence in the care of specimens, accurately handling them at all times.
  • Accurately complete operating room sponge, needle, and instrument counts, reporting discrepancies to circulating nurse and surgeon.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate of Surgical Technologist Program
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers (AHA certified)

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent and Graduate of Surgical Technologist Program
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred

Nice to Have

  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience as a Surgical Technologist
  • Certification in specialty
