Analyze data to identify trends, perform statistical analysis, and prepare reports for the Fire Department to optimize efficiency, resource deployment, and program development. This role requires collecting data, using statistical methods, and utilizing computer software for data presentation.
Responsibilities
- Research and collect data to monitor trends, patterns, and changes impacting service quality and delivery
- Use parametric and non-parametric statistical methods to analyze data and prepare in-depth and summary reports
- Perform sophisticated analysis of specific crimes to aid in strategic and tactical suppression and prevention activities
- Use various computer hardware and software to produce maps, text, tables, graphs, charts, and other aids for reports and presentations
- Design forms for collecting data for special studies
- Develop procedures within an automated environment to facilitate data entry
- Work with geographic databases in a computer mapping environment to produce analytic maps
- Evaluate, devise, and implement conversion of manual statistical procedures and methods to automated systems
- Act as lead analyst for special projects as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a course in statistics or quantitative methods
- Three additional courses in mathematics, research methods, computer programming, statistics, quantitative methods, or related field
- Knowledge of data collection and statistical compilation/interpretation methods
- Knowledge of computer-based systems for data gathering, organization, and analysis
- Mathematical skills
- Ability to perform complex statistical analysis
- Ability to use computer packages to manage data and produce graphic displays and text
- Ability to write commands for automated analysis and statistical tests
- Ability to understand complex data sources and present statistical reports
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree that included one course in statistics or quantitative methods and three additional courses in mathematics, research methods, computer programming, statistics, quantitative methods and/or a related field
- Six (6) months' work experience with statistical processes and methods preferred, but entry level positions do not require prior experience
