This Public Health Nurse role provides professional nursing services to individuals, families, and groups in various community settings, focusing on maternal and child health. The position involves delivering direct care, education, and case management to promote health and prevent disease.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care, health assessments, health guidance, health education, and referral services to individuals, families, groups, and institutions
- Assist in the provision of patient case management and monitoring
- Assess and monitor patients' physical and mental states of health to determine needs for community-based resources
- Establish nursing care priorities and coordinate care with other resources
- Monitor the progress of patient care plans
- Oversee and evaluate home-based services
- Ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations
- Assist physicians and others in health clinics
- Conduct home visits and render preventive nursing care
- Perform various health screenings
- Provide health screening education and counseling in disease prevention, health maintenance, and mental health
- Participate in the instruction, orientation, and oversight of new public health nurses, nursing assistants, and volunteers
- Prepare and maintain nursing records and reports
Requirements
- Valid license to practice as a professional registered nurse, issued by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses
- Valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, or diploma in nursing with 1 year experience, or associate in arts degree in nursing with 2 years experience
- Entry level, or 1-2 years if diploma/associate degree
Nice to Have
- Experience working with a Maternal and Child Health Program and/or Infants and Toddlers Program
- Experience working with families of young children with special needs
- Experience providing early childhood intervention and preschool special education system of services
