SRC Phlebotomist I

About This Role

This role involves collecting blood from patients following established procedures, ensuring specimen integrity, and maintaining patient safety and comfort. This position plays a crucial part in the patient care process by accurately obtaining samples for laboratory analysis.

Responsibilities

• Interact courteously and professionally with laboratory customers and respond to requests promptly
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick, following patient identification procedures
• Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures, including non-blood samples as needed
• Collect and transport specimens, adhering to safety procedures and appropriate PPE
• Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies, including quality control, safety, and hygiene protocols
• Perform related clerical duties, entering accurate demographic and test information to create tracking logs into systems
• Train and orient new employees and students as required
• Notify technical staff and supervisors of any unusual or problematic incidents
• Monitor and maintain supplies, using materials efficiently to control costs
• Participate in continuing education for phlebotomy to ensure the latest techniques and safety protocols are followed

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of phlebotomy and Medical Terminology
• Basic computer and keyboarding skills
• Ability to solve problems and work independently

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of phlebotomy and Medical Terminology.
• Completion of an approved phlebotomy certification program, or equivalent experience acquired through on-the-job training.

Nice to Have

• Certification in phlebotomy
