About This Role

This role involves building scalable science solutions for the Private Brands team by applying Optimization, Machine Learning, Statistics, Causal Inference, and Econometrics/Economics. The Senior Research Scientist will derive actionable insights from Amazon’s retail business and develop statistical models and algorithms to drive strategic business decisions. This position offers a high-visibility opportunity to make a significant business impact and dive deep into large-scale problems within the consumer economy.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy highly scalable optimization solutions and ML models
  • Bring business and industry context to science and technology decisions
  • Set the standard for scientific excellence and make decisions affecting algorithm integration
  • Tackle intrinsically hard problems and acquire expertise as needed
  • Decompose complex problems into straightforward solutions

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products
  • PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of quantitative field research experience
  • Knowledge of R or Python
  • Knowledge of AWS platforms such as S3, Glue, Athena, Sagemaker
  • Experience conveying complex subject matter to clients and stakeholders

Qualifications

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of quantitative field research experience
  • 5+ years of investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products, or 5+ years of quantitative field research experience with a Master's degree.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with discrete and continuous optimization methodologies and algorithms
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and influencing colleagues, collaborators, and stakeholders
