Sr. Data Governance Analyst & Steward

About This Role

This role is responsible for establishing and upholding rigorous data governance practices within SCRI (Sarah Cannon Research Institute). This role ensures that critical data assets are well-defined, of high quality, trusted, compliant, and effectively utilized across research and clinical operations. This position blends data governance execution, business data stewardship, and data quality oversight, acting as a subject matter expert and liaison between technical and business teams.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain SCRI-aligned data governance policies, standards, and controls.
• Ensure adherence to Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) guidelines.
• Participate in governance councils, stewardship forums, and related governance committees.
• Communicate governance priorities, risks, and performance metrics to leadership.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for oncology or research-related data domains.
• Define, curate, and maintain business metadata, glossaries, and data definitions.
• Create and maintain proactive and reactive data quality rules.
• Document end-to-end lineage of data assets, including source-to-target flows and transformations.
• Support organizational efforts to promote data literacy, governance awareness, and sound data practices.
• Contribute to training materials and educational content related to governance, metadata, and data quality.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of data governance, stewardship, metadata management, and data quality practices.
• Strong understanding of healthcare and oncology data.
• Experience in data governance, data stewardship, data quality, or data management disciplines.
• Experience with regulatory environments (HIPAA/PHI/PII, SOX).
• Proficiency with data catalog tools (e.g., Alation), metadata management, and SQL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Organizational Management, Information Systems, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience as a Data Steward or Business Systems Analyst, preferably in healthcare industry.

• Familiarity with metadata, data quality, stewardship, and compliance tools.
• Exposure to analytics, AI/ML data preparation, data lineage tools, and enterprise data platforms.
