This role is responsible for establishing and upholding rigorous data governance practices within SCRI (Sarah Cannon Research Institute). This role ensures that critical data assets are well-defined, of high quality, trusted, compliant, and effectively utilized across research and clinical operations. This position blends data governance execution, business data stewardship, and data quality oversight, acting as a subject matter expert and liaison between technical and business teams.
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain SCRI-aligned data governance policies, standards, and controls.
- Ensure adherence to Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) guidelines.
- Participate in governance councils, stewardship forums, and related governance committees.
- Communicate governance priorities, risks, and performance metrics to leadership.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for oncology or research-related data domains.
- Define, curate, and maintain business metadata, glossaries, and data definitions.
- Create and maintain proactive and reactive data quality rules.
- Document end-to-end lineage of data assets, including source-to-target flows and transformations.
- Support organizational efforts to promote data literacy, governance awareness, and sound data practices.
- Contribute to training materials and educational content related to governance, metadata, and data quality.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of data governance, stewardship, metadata management, and data quality practices.
- Strong understanding of healthcare and oncology data.
- Experience in data governance, data stewardship, data quality, or data management disciplines.
- Experience with regulatory environments (HIPAA/PHI/PII, SOX).
- Proficiency with data catalog tools (e.g., Alation), metadata management, and SQL.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Organizational Management, Information Systems, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience as a Data Steward or Business Systems Analyst, preferably in healthcare industry.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with metadata, data quality, stewardship, and compliance tools.
- Exposure to analytics, AI/ML data preparation, data lineage tools, and enterprise data platforms.
