Specimen Technician

About This Role

The Specimen Technician I is responsible for providing general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, ensuring accurate and timely processing of specimens for laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, including A-station, pre-sort, pickup, and delivery of processed specimens
• Conduct imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting of specimens
• Maintain confidence, accuracy, and timeliness in all functions
• Organize work and understand specimen types related to test orders
• Adhere to productivity and quality standards in a production environment
• Work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
• Keep work area neat and clean
• Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures

Requirements

• HS diploma or equivalent
• Basic understanding of computers
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods
• Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour
• Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering
• Ability to stand, lift, and move the majority of the shift

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing
• Previous laboratory experience
• Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
• Previous hospital laboratory experience
• Previous experience in a production environment
