As a Special Procedures Technologist, you will operate imaging equipment and produce radiographs according to ARRT standards, assisting radiologists with interventional procedures and demonstrating expertise in human anatomy, patient care, radiographic sciences, and radiation protection. The role involves consistently producing diagnostic quality films, following protocols, and efficiently operating fluoroscopy and digital equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate imaging equipment and produce radiographs according to American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) standards
- Assist the radiologist or physician to perform interventional procedures
- Demonstrate knowledge of human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of radiographic sciences, radiation protection, and specialized Special Procedures techniques
- Consistently produce films of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from adolescent to geriatric
- Follow established routine Special Procedures protocols
- Operate fluoroscopy and digital equipment efficiently and effectively, troubleshooting equipment failures
- Prepare patient and equipment for procedures
- Anticipate and respond to the needs of the physician, nurse, and scrub tech during procedures
- Demonstrate competency and safe, effective working knowledge of Special Procedures equipment
- Complete required documentation on forms, logs, and in computer
- Provide Radiologist with additional information or reason for non-standard images
- Administer contrast media in accordance with policies and procedures
- Complete Adverse Drug Reaction Form and/or extravasation worksheet, when necessary
Requirements
- Graduate of an educational program in Radiology accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) OR graduate of an American Medical Association approved program in Radiologic Technology OR a military training program of equivalent standards
- Current Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) certification with Texas Medical Board (TMB)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy
- Certified in Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT, (R))
Qualifications
- Graduate of an educational program in Radiology accredited by JRCERT, OR an American Medical Association approved program in Radiologic Technology, OR a military training program of equivalent standards, with an Associate's Degree or higher in Radiologic Technology preferred.
- One year experience as a Radiologic Technologist - preferred

- Post primary certification in Cardiovascular-Intervention Technology
