Special Education Paraprofessional

About This Role

Assist special education teachers by carrying out educational programs, managing the classroom, and providing direct support to students in academic and behavioral aspects, both within and outside the classroom.

Responsibilities

• Assist with classroom management and instruction
• Provide attention, direction, and assistance to students
• Communicate regularly with the teacher regarding daily plans and observations
• Work with individuals and small groups of students on teacher-planned activities
• Encourage appropriate behavior and assist in implementing behavior management programs
• Observe, record, and chart academic and behavioral progress
• Accompany and/or assist mainstreamed students in regular classrooms
• Supervise students during free time, in corridors, lavatories, lunchroom, and playgrounds
• Assist with field trips, school parties, and club activities
• Escort students to various locations in the building, including toileting and diapering if needed
• Assist with meeting, loading, and unloading buses
