Long Term Substitute Special Education Paraprofessional

About This Role

The Special Education Paraprofessional provides instructional and behavioral support to students in East Hartford Public Schools, focusing on implementing individualized education programs and assisting with students' physical, emotional, and educational needs in various settings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, organize, and distribute instructional materials and equipment under the supervision of a teacher/supervisor
• Assist in maintaining an organized, safe, and productive student work environment
• Support student learning and assist in the implementation of curriculum-based activities
• Reinforce academic and behavioral lessons initially introduced by the teacher, working with students individually or in small groups
• Support students' physical and emotional needs, including mobility assistance, self-care, and emotional regulation
• Score objective tests and student assignments, and assist in the preparation of instructional and adaptive materials under teacher supervision
• Supervise and assist students during field trips, on the playground, and during lunch periods
• Assist students on and off school buses or vans safely and efficiently
• Support students during scheduled classes including specialized areas such as music, art, and physical education
• Serve as a key source of continuity and support for substitute teachers by providing information about classroom routines, student needs, and instructional activities

Requirements

• Associate's Degree or equivalent sixty (60) college credits
• ETS Para Pro Assessment (if no degree/credits)
