About This Role

The Clinical Social Worker assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders for patients requiring emotional and psycho-social assistance within an oncology setting. This role provides knowledge of agencies and organizations offering a range of services to patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide therapeutic counseling to patients, family members, and caregivers, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral issues.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the psychosocial impact of cancer on the patient and family system throughout the continuum of care.
  • Provide emotional support and crisis assessment/interventions to patients and families.
  • Act as an active member of the medical interdisciplinary team, ensuring ongoing communication.
  • Participate in Value Based Care initiatives, including distress screening follow-up and advance care planning.
  • Assist and support patients and families with transition to and issues associated with survivorship.
  • Meet with patients and their families to administer, assess, and provide appropriate follow-up of psychosocial needs assessments.
  • Develop, maintain, and facilitate support groups to enhance quality of care.
  • Provide education to clinic staff regarding skills and knowledge specific to the role of a clinical social worker.
  • Act as a patient/family advocate in negotiating the health care system.
  • Document all interventions in EMR accurately, appropriately, and timely.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and may oversee coordination of Social Services staff.
  • Supervise MSW Student Interns and provide clinical supervision to MSWs working towards licensure as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program
  • Valid and current Texas state master’s clinical-level license (LCSW)

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work from a school or program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Minimum three- to five-years’ experience preferred, working as a clinical social worker in a health care setting; oncology, palliative care and/or hospice experience desired.
