Senior Staff Accountant

About This Role

Join an accounting team in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. as a Senior Staff Accountant, focusing on month-end close processes, balance sheet management, internal audit support, and accounts receivable functions. This role supports core operational accounting and aims to improve processes and strengthen internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as part of the month-end close process, ensuring accurate cutoff and timely reporting
• Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts, research variances, and maintain supporting schedules and documentation
• Support internal audit activities, including audit testing, documentation, and ensuring GAAP-compliant, audit-ready records
• Manage accounts receivable processes, including invoicing, cash application, account reconciliations, and aging review
• Assist with the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), identifying process improvements and strengthening internal controls

Requirements

• Proven experience in operational accounting, including month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and AR functions
• Working knowledge of internal controls, audit support, and compliance best practices
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment

Qualifications

• Proven experience in operational accounting, including month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and AR functions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with accounting systems such as Opera, BirchStreet, Blackline, or Ontrac
• Hotel or hospitality industry experience
