About This Role

Provide legal counsel and support to Avangrid Power's renewable energy business, assisting with development, construction, PPA origination, operations, and asset management activities for renewable energy projects. This individual contributor role reports to the Deputy General Counsel of Avangrid Power.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and advice supporting development, construction, origination, and asset management activities relating to renewable energy projects, including real estate, permitting, and regulatory matters
  • Review and draft contracts and other legal documents such as NDAs, Power Purchase Agreements, Interconnection Agreements, corporate guaranties, and routine construction and procurement contracts
  • Represent the company in major transactions and negotiations relating to renewable energy projects, including asset transfers and joint ventures
  • Provide legal counsel and advice concerning matters involving rules and orders of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) as they relate to renewable energy projects and compliance
  • Effectively manage outside counsel

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • State Bar Admission
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong ethical values
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, experienced, and agile
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as a proven team player
  • Well-organized and able to identify business-oriented solutions to complex legal problems
  • Excellent oral and written communication, problem solving, analytical, organizational, and negotiating skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and presents high-quality work

Qualifications

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with legal issues relating to renewable energy project development, real estate, construction operations, joint ventures
  • Prior experience with Power Purchase Agreements, Interconnection Agreements, and other agreements relating to renewable energy projects
  • Familiarity with federal and state permitting, environmental and regulatory matters impacting renewable energy development, including NEPA, ESA, and other wildlife management and protection statutes
  • Familiarity with the rules and orders of the FERC and RTOs
