Join our team as a Search and Discoverability User Research Analyst to research how students use AI tools for information about Indiana University and how their behaviors impact the discoverability of IU resources, directly impacting IU's digital strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead research efforts to uncover how prospective and current students use AI tools for information about Indiana University and how behaviors impact discoverability of IU resources
- Design and conduct qualitative and quantitative studies (interviews, surveys, and usability testing) to track student search behavior
- Stay at the forefront of AI search developments and document how changes in search engines affect user journeys
- Translate complex user behaviors into actionable insights, personas, and journey maps
- Partner with other UCM and IU teams to suggest improvements for content discoverability based on findings
- Present periodic briefings on shifting student sentiment and emerging "AI-first" search habits
Requirements
- Currently enrolled graduate student in HCI, User Experience (UX), Information Science, Psychology, Marketing, or a closely related field
- Proven experience with user research methodologies (foundational, generative, and evaluative)
- Ability to synthesize qualitative stories with quantitative data
- Strong interest in and familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and how they are changing the web
- Presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a customer-centered approach and ability to interact with university leadership
- Ability to adhere to processes that ensure data security and privacy in accordance with university policies and all governmental legal requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, CASL, etc.)
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled graduate student in HCI, User Experience (UX), Information Science, Psychology, Marketing, or a closely related field
Nice to Have
- Experience with tools like Figma, Dovetail, or Qualtrics
- Background in SEO/AIO or digital marketing
- Experience with SEO analysis platforms like Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and SEMRush
- Strong presentation skills to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders
