This position performs routine environmental health duties, assisting Registered Sanitarians in controlling environmental sanitation. The role involves permitting and monitoring compliance for environmental programs, with a focus on on-site water systems, solid waste, and public health nuisances.
Responsibilities
- Review and utilize site investigations to determine feasibility for on-site wastewater systems on residential and commercial properties
- Conduct technical reviews of permit applications to determine compliance with applicable county and state law
- Read, interpret, and apply applicable provisions of codes, laws, ordinances, and statutes
- Conduct construction inspections of on-site wastewater systems to ensure minimum standards are met
- Investigate environmental nuisance complaints, recommend solutions, and ensure compliance with state laws and ordinances
- Submit reports detailing items of noncompliance for correction
- Prepare and maintain manual and computer-based files of materials reviewed and related materials
- Assist Registered Sanitarians in providing environmental sanitation control services
- Conduct public and semi-public pool inspections to determine compliance and write detailed reports
- Assist with chlorine flushes inspections on new subdivisions, commercial property, and county projects
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- 30 semester hours of post-high school course work in natural sciences, environmental health, or related field
- 1 year work experience in environmental health or related field
- Possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license
- Successful completion of a background check

- one (1) year work experience in environmental health or related field
