Manage and develop the safety performance and programs for assigned business units and direct reports within HITT Contracting. This role serves as a key safety resource, regularly assessing needs, and participating in corporate safety program development.
Responsibilities
- Manage direct report workloads and make staffing recommendations
- Conduct regular check-ins and yearly performance evaluations for direct reports
- Assess training and learning needs for direct reports
- Train and support Safety Department members
- Review career path goals and provide feedback on career development for team members
- Participate in the retention and recruiting of HITT Safety Department team members
- Manage outside consultant project needs and performance
- Determine and fulfill the safety needs of multiple projects and/or business units
- Conduct on-site safety inspections independently utilizing Predictive Solutions System
- Evaluate hazard and incident data to identify trends and create focus on specific project and corporate safety needs
- Ensure project compliance with federal, state, local, corporate, and client safety regulations and procedures
- Lead OSHA or third-party safety inspections independently
- Lead crisis or accident/incident response and investigation independently
- Develop, select, and deliver safety toolbox meetings and/or project safety orientations effectively
- Assist with safety planning as part of preconstruction process
- Develop and/or lead in execution of department corporate level goals
Requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of high hazard technical areas (cranes, fall protection, scaffold, excavation, electrical)
- Good written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to assess and prioritize multiple business unit needs, tasks, projects and demands
- Adaptability to flexible and changing schedules
- Strong analytical and research skills to define and solve problems
- Ability to work well independently
- Willingness to respond to emergency or crisis conditions
- Ability to work under various environmental or site conditions
- Ability to navigate stairs, ladders and uneven floors or ground conditions
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in safety or related field preferred
- Five years of experience with degree or eight or more years of construction safety experience
