About This Role

Provide engineering and operations support for all substation Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) related functions, including developing configurations and drawings for assigned projects. Consult with other departments to establish RTU requirements and operating philosophy for the Tampa Electric Company system.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with other relevant departments to establish RTU requirements and operating philosophy consistent with TEC system requirements
  • Provide guidance, training, and consultation as an RTU engineering specialist to design engineers and operating personnel
  • Investigate and evaluate available RTU equipment and devices, and provide input into the selection and purchase of materials
  • Provide engineering support to operations departments during checkout and as required, interpreting engineering design during construction
  • Develop RTU configurations and drawings for assigned projects, prepare work orders, and support RTU crews during work

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of RTU/SCADA systems with the ability to interpret substation drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation
  • Familiarity with control/automation logic concepts (RTU logic, PLC-style logic, IEC 61131-3 concepts, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with SCADA protocols such as DNP3 and Modbus (serial and/or TCP/IP)
  • Understanding of serial and IP-based communications networks used in substations (e.g., RS-232/RS-485, Ethernet, fiber, radio/cellular/microwave concepts)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Minimum of 3 years of power utility engineering and operations experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SEL RTAC and/or GE D20 (or equivalent RTU platforms)
  • Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, point mapping/database development, time synchronization, and event reporting/SOE
