Cable System Specialist

About This Role

The Cable System Specialist supports Tampa Electric Company’s network and downtown underground commercial distribution systems, as well as Tampa International Airport and Tampa General Hospital construction, maintenance and long-term planning projects. This role involves creating system maintenance work requests, determining customer/system requirements, assisting with designs, and coordinating activities between various departments and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Meet with customers to conduct needs and feasibility assessments, create work orders, determine schedules, and manage communications for maintenance/construction activities
• Record and update all inspection and maintenance records for Network service area
• Create and/or process work requests including specifying material, equipment, financials, scheduling outages, and ensuring regulatory compliance
• Develop, facilitate, and participate in training on network/DUCD design, equipment, fault locating procedures, and new technology
• Read and interpret network secondary and conduit maps, verify as-builts, and produce estimates; oversee updating of GIS construction prints
• Investigate and test the application of new network/DUCD equipment and make recommendations for upgrades/replacements
• Make recommendations and provide estimates for the annual maintenance plan and associated budget
• Assist and/or design and install fiber optic communications downtown
• Provide technical troubleshooting and infrared scanning of network, DUCD, TIA & TGH equipment using various instruments
• Serve as the customer field liaison and provide technical assistance to Network Specialists on emergency call-outs and scheduled outages
• Work with management on storm restoration plans for various electrical systems

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Florida State driver’s license and a safe driving record
• 2 years of TEC Distribution Design Technician work experience OR 2 years of experience with another electrical utility performing the equivalent duties
• Experience in safely accessing and inspecting energized equipment
• Ability to learn network and DUCD systems, how to set up and operate high voltage cable thumper and FLIR infrared camera
• Ability to read and interpret network secondary, conduit, and DUCD one-line maps and switching orders and the Load Flow model
• Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and redirect focus for changing priorities

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Associates degree in applicable field.
• 2 years of TEC Distribution Design Technician work experience OR 2 years of experience with another electrical utility performing equivalent duties. Must have experience in safely accessing and inspecting energized equipment.

• Successful completion of Tampa Electric Company’s five (5) level Distribution Design Training (DDT) course
• TEC Safety Training
• 3 or more years of Distribution Design Technician work experience
