The Emergency Department Nurse at Marshall Medical Centers North provides specialized care for medical emergencies, focusing on recognizing, stabilizing, and planning patient care based on acuity. This role ensures patients receive excellent care in a hospital environment.
Responsibilities
- Follow Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) guidelines
- Follow Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) guidelines
- Follow Basic Life Support (BLS) guidelines
- Perform orthopedic splinting
- Provide advanced cardiac care, including manual defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing
- Perform Electrocardiogram monitoring, including 12-lead ECG
- Establish vascular access for medication administration and fluid resuscitation via various routes
- Utilize noninvasive diagnostic devices such as pulse oximetry and capnography
- Place a nasogastric tube and perform gastric suctioning
- Administer medications via intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, sublingual, endotracheal, rectal, and intraosseous routes
- Use glucometer for diabetic patients
- Manage ventilators and IV pumps
- Administer a variety of medications
- Utilize the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) for patient triage
Requirements
- Graduation from a State Board of Nursing School RN program
- Licensure by the Alabama Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse
- BLS certification
- Certified within the first year and maintains ACLS certification
- Certified within the first year and maintains PALS certification
- MOAB or equivalent training
