The Outpatient RN primarily performs telephone triage and supports providers in an outpatient office by managing prescription refills, arranging referrals, conducting patient intake, patient teaching, and administering medications.
Responsibilities
- Perform telephone triage for an outpatient office
- Assist with the implementation of provider orders
- Oversee prescription refills
- Order tests and arrange referrals
- Perform patient intake history, patient teaching and counseling
- Administer medications and assist in various procedures as necessary
- Maintain proper documentation
- Communicate relevant patient information to providers
- Schedule patient visits
- Potentially travel to facilities to assist providers
Requirements
- Education requirements to practice as a licensed Registered Nurse in NYS
- Two years' experience in direct nursing care in a hospital or community health center, with patients of all ages
- Computer literacy essential
- Current NYS RN license
- Current CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Ability to perform under stress
- Ability to defuse or cope with anger and hostility
- Effective interpersonal communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and courteously
- Ability to cope with ambiguity in decision making situations and to determine need for care immediacy
Qualifications
- Fulfilled the educational requirements to practice as a licensed Registered Nurse in NYS; BSN preferred.
- Two years' experience in direct nursing care in a hospital or community health center, with patients of all ages.
