About This Role

As a Respiratory Therapist at Powerback, you will perform respiratory care procedures under medical direction, exercising judgment within established policies. You will assess, administer therapy, and monitor patient progress to improve lives for older adults and children.

Responsibilities

  • Perform respiratory care related procedures under general supervision and medical direction
  • Exercise judgment in accordance with physician's treatment plan and departmental policies
  • Assess resident's condition and administer prescribed therapy and aerosolized medications
  • Observe and record resident's progress and response to therapy modalities, including adverse reactions
  • Provide in-service training to residents, family members, and facility staff
  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain life support systems for residents in skilled nursing facilities
  • Perform airway care and maintenance
  • Manage artificial ventilator status as directed by an approved protocol
  • Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators
  • Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures of bag ventilation and closed chest massage
  • Initiate, monitor, and document performance of various respiratory care modalities
  • Perform assessment of residents' cardiopulmonary status utilizing physical assessment, history taking, laboratory findings, radiological studies, and pulmonary function testing
  • Formulate a respiratory care plan upon the order of a physician
  • Check physician's orders for completeness prior to treating a resident
  • Check resident's chart for history, physical, and pertinent information to determine precautions
  • Observe and chart: pulse, respiration, breath sounds, and resident's general appearance
  • Administer proper technical respiratory care procedures, dispensing proper dosage of medication and adjusting devices
  • Inspect and test equipment, disassemble, clean, reassemble, and maintain adequate supply of necessary equipment
  • Assist in emergency cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as an integral part of the emergency team
  • Instruct residents and family members in the rationale and methodology of every respiratory procedure
  • Attend internal and external educational programs and read professional journals to maintain and enhance technical skills
  • Participate in interdisciplinary resident rounds and conferences to plan and evaluate effective resident care
  • Participate in quality assurance program data collection as assigned
  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of rehab services, adherence to plan of care, and timely documentation

Requirements

  • NBRC approved and accredited respiratory therapy program completion
  • One year of clinical practice experience under medical direction
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
  • Current State Licensure for a Respiratory Care Practitioner

  • Completion of a NBRC approved and accredited program in respiratory therapy
  • One year of clinical practice experience under medical direction
