Provide respiratory care services to patients through assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. This role performs various respiratory care procedures and monitors patient responses, making recommendations for therapy adjustments.
Responsibilities
- Provide respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation
- Perform all respiratory care procedures including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services
- Monitor patient's response to therapies and make recommendations to change or modify based on assessment
- May serve as the shift 'Charge Therapist' ensuring adequate staffing and assignments for respiratory care
- Perform CPR including closed chest compressions and airway management techniques
- Conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve maintenance of a patient airway
- Select, assemble, monitor and evaluate mechanical ventilators for proper function and operation
- Administer intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or aerosol therapy
- Perform arterial punctures and analysis; interpret arterial blood gas (ABG)
- Instruct patients and families in incentive spirometer, MDI administration, postural drainage, oxygen therapy, ventilator care and home aerosol therapy
Requirements
- Current Respiratory Care License in the state they are working
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed
- BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
- ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross
- PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association
- Two years of experience as a Respiratory Care Professional
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of non-invasive respiratory therapy equipment
- Understanding of EKGs, electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias
- Arterial blood gas punctures and testing
- Airway maneuvers
- Bedside pulmonary function
- Patient assessment
- Patient education
- Knowledge of chest suction equipment
- Knowledge of chest X-ray interpretation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, Related to Respiratory Therapy/Health care/Healthcare Admin/Business Admin (preferred)
- Two years of experience as a Respiratory Care Professional
