About This Role

Provide direct and indirect patient care within the Intensive Care Unit, applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient
  • Consult and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients
  • Establish, review, revise and follow the patient plan of care
  • Administer medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse
  • Record patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient's medical records
  • Operate medical equipment used in the care of the patient
  • Provide patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care
  • Oversee LPN practices as directed by unit director

Requirements

  • Active TN RN license or compact state license (with intent to obtain TN RN license within 30 days)
  • BLS (current or within 90 days of hire)
  • ACLS (current or within 90 days of hire)
  • PALS (current or within 90 days of hire)
  • NRP (current or within 90 days of hire)
  • Handle with Care (within 6 months of hire)
  • Basic Arrhythmia course (within 90 days of hire)
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Decisive judgment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work with multiple computer systems
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to operate standard patient care equipment
