Registered Nurse (Med Surg)

About This Role

This role involves performing an age-specific plan of care for designated patients, utilizing the nursing process, and collaborating with healthcare teams. The Registered Nurse will use leadership skills to coordinate patient care and direct activities of the patient care unit team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient interviews, explain policies and procedures, and review patient charts for questions and answers
• Assess gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status of patients
• Determine mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition, and adjust the plan of care accordingly
• Assess level of pain and pain management, and communicate/document patient’s physiologic health status and plan of care
• Determine coping mechanisms, knowledge levels, and ability to comprehend for patients
• Identify cultural/ethnic requirements to reduce anxiety and ensure patient satisfaction
• Develop patient outcome statements and establish individualized patient goals
• Coordinate the cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication to achieve expected outcomes
• Maintain constant vigilance over patient care to ensure safety precautions/needs are followed
• Accurately interpret and implement treatment regimens as prescribed by the Physician

Requirements

• Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
• Enrollment in an accredited BSN program within two (2) years of job entry date
• Obtain a BSN Degree within five (5) years of job entry date

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.
