The Registered Nurse in the emergency department is responsible for the provision and coordination of patient-centered care. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans, while also participating in teaching and providing leadership.
Responsibilities
- Collect current symptoms, detailed patient history, consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care plans
- Organize and plan care of patients in the emergency department with the ability to assess, determine treatment rationale and delivery, follow protocols, administer medications with accuracy and knowledge, educate patients
- Accurately obtain & record results of assessment, care delivery, medication and administration, treatments, and responses in the electronic medical record or on designation documentation packets
- Perform daily checks of and clean equipment such as monitors, code equipment, crash cart checks, and oxygen cylinders
- Prepare and administer medications using the rights established by the Texas Board of Nursing and facility policies and procedures
- Maintain care standards established by the Emergency Nurses Association and facility policies and procedures
- Use clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, and all customers internal and external
- Monitor patients using proper equipment as ordered
- Triage patients appropriately using the ESI system
- Provide discharge instructions, follow up care, and education to patients and family members
- Stabilize patients by coordination with medical staff providers, EMS, coworkers, patients and family members in a professional, calm manner
Requirements
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- Current professional RN license issued and/or recognized by Board of Nurse examiners for the State of Texas
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) certification within 6 months of hire
Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- 1-2 years of ED experience preferred. BSN preferred.

- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
