About This Role

Provide hands-on care, physical and emotional support to residents, and assist with medication administration as a Care/Medication Technician at a senior living community.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for a designated group of residents, monitoring their whereabouts and checking on them throughout the shift.
  • Observe, report, and document changes in residents' condition such as skin, behavior, alertness, weight, dietary intake, and activity participation.
  • Respond promptly to security system alerts and resident call bells.
  • Notify supervisor and/or Health Care Coordinator of increased resident care needs.
  • Assist with continence management and properly dispose of products to maintain sanitation.
  • Serve and collect food trays, assisting as needed, and report meal refusals or loss of appetite.
  • Maintain cleanliness of residents’ rooms and work areas.
  • Practice good standard care precautions for cleanliness, hygiene, and health.
  • Help residents maintain independence, promoting dignity and physical safety.
  • Actively participate/lead and assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, transferring, eating).
  • Engage residents in life skills and other life enrichment activities.
  • Greet and assist all internal and external customers, guests, family members, residents, vendors, and team members.
  • Perform resident laundry as assigned and needed.
  • Review service plans to learn pertinent resident information.
  • Assist/observe medications and treatments for residents using the medication observation record and the Six Rights of Medication Pass.
  • Document and initial medication administration, including appropriate documentation for refusal or missed doses.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident medication information.
  • Report all resident concerns related to medication assistance to the Nurse and/or Health Care Coordinator (HCC).
  • Restock medication cart after all medication passes.
  • Assist in checking medication regardless of packaging system.
  • Count all narcotics with another Medication Care Manager or Nurse each shift.
  • Maintain and clean the Medication Room, med charts, and treatment carts for neatness, cleanliness, availability of medications, and expired medications.
  • Follow re-fill process for medications.
  • Participate in the development of the Service Plan and monthly updates.
  • Take and record temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse, and respiration rates.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, sharp sticks, and hazardous chemicals immediately.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED
  • Previous experience working with seniors preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Certified Nurse’s Aid certification

  • Previous experience working with seniors
