Product Designer

About This Role

Lead the design efforts for Gusto's contractor management platform, influencing major experience improvements in critical workflows for small businesses and contractors. This role involves driving the end-to-end design process, from ideation and strategic planning to execution and iteration, as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of comprehensive design strategies for the contractor experience, from discovery to delivery and refinement
• Partner with cross-functional teams to define problem spaces, prioritize features, and deliver solutions that balance customer satisfaction with business needs
• Translate research insights and data into intuitive, scalable user experiences that support diverse workflows
• Participate in design reviews, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to establishing design standards and platform quality
• Explore innovative technologies, including AI, to improve workflows and enhance user engagement
• Mentor and support fellow designers through critique, knowledge sharing, and community initiatives within Gusto
• Ensure accessibility and inclusivity are integrated into all design processes and deliverables

Requirements

• 8+ years of product design experience with a proven track record of impacting complex domains
• Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality interaction and visual design, with a focus on accessibility and comprehensive user experiences
• Experience leading product-level design direction and influencing cross-functional teams
• Excellent collaboration skills with partners in product, engineering, research, and data teams
• Ability to translate ambiguous problems into clear, actionable design solutions
• Exceptional communication skills to align teams around shared goals
• Deep understanding of user-centered design principles and inclusive design practices

Qualifications

• 8+ years of product design experience
