This role involves working within the power electronics core engineering team, collaborating with North America Product Release Centers (PRCs) and other Stellantis cross-functional teams to develop power electronics products from specification to launch. The Power Electronics Mechanical SME will leverage technical expertise in mechatronics design for automotive power electronics to lead critical design reviews and support various aspects of product development.
Responsibilities
- Lead Mechanical Critical Design Review (CDR) analysis including structural, sealings, fasteners, castings, stack-up analysis for power electronics
- Provide CDRs summary report for each design milestone
- Review component and subcomponents drawings
- Review and roadmap power electronics components and subcomponents technologies regarding mechanical topics
- Work with cross functional teams to define best optimized design and technology
- Serve as the point of contact and expertise for Power electronics components mechanical related issues
- Support competitors and suppliers benchmarking
- Support "engineering best practice" documents and supplier design reviews
- Support core DFMEAs for Stellantis platform design
- Support root cause analysis of PIM issues in product development, warranty/quality, or manufacturing
- Generate cost reduction ideas
Requirements
- 8 years of related experience
- Understanding of power electronics components/systems development process
- Knowledge of material science of components used in mechanical design (metals, insulators, plastics, connectors, gaskets, thermal interface materials, potting, etc.)
- Proficiency using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools (CATIA, ANSYS Icepak, StarCCM)
- Knowledge of GD&T, finite element analysis, and design for reliability concepts
- Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.
- Basic understanding of electrical design fundamentals
- Experience with high volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, diecast, friction steer welding
- Knowledge in industry standard and next generation assembly processes including design for manufacturing
- Knowledge of FMEA and automotive quality standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 8 years of related experience.

- PhD degree and 8+ experience
- Experience with device qualification and reliability testing
- Experience with Power Electronics failure analysis, and reverse engineering analysis
- Experience with PIM thermal/performance / efficiency characterization
