About This Role

Contribute to the research program within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, developing skills and knowledge to become an independent scientist. Design and execute laboratory experiments, analyze data, and present research findings with the goal of improving patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Develop skills and knowledge to become an independent scientist, including critical thinking, data analysis, project planning, and experimental design
  • Design, execute, and record laboratory experiments and analyze data that may impact future patient care decisions
  • Research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques for protocol and assay accuracy through quality and reproducibility checks
  • Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment
  • Discuss experimental results with Faculty and provide useful recommendations and analysis
  • Present research at laboratory meetings, journal clubs, seminars, and other scientific meetings
  • Draft, write, and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles, abstracts, and grants
  • Mentor research staff and manage fiscal administration as responsibilities increase
  • Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature, and seminars
  • Actively participate in intellectual discussions with the Principal Investigator (PI) and other faculty, trainees, and research staff

Requirements

  • PhD/MD or equivalent degree
