Conduct independent NIH-funded research on innate immune mechanisms of airway epithelium, focusing on disease mechanisms of chronic lung diseases such as COPD, asthma, and IPF. This role involves experimental research on environmental pollutants' impact on cigarette smoke-induced lung dysfunction.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research by designing and executing cell and molecular biology studies
- Perform fundamental scientific tasks and select methodologies independently
- Set up new cellular assays, analyzing human samples and complex data sets
- Oversee research at different stages of maturity
- Improve on animal models of chronic lung diseases and cell lineage tracing
- Assist with the resolution of problems and document/report results
- Analyze, interpret, and continuously summarize findings as succinct reports
- Write and review animal protocols
- Collaborate with other scientists and investigators
- Provide advice and assistance with experiments and in areas of expertise
- Manage lab equipment
- Report results in open literature publications and presentations at scientific meetings
- Write proposals for research funding
- Develop scientific network through societies
Requirements
- MD or PhD in Biochemistry or Biological sciences
- Experience in biomedical research
- Expertise in gene targeting
- Protein analyses using latest molecular biology and immunology techniques
- Experience with in vivo CRISPR
- Experience with single cell RNA sequencing
- Experience in molecular biology techniques such as Western blot, immunostaining, immunoprecipitation
- Experience with mouse models of diseases
- Strong background in molecular biology and/or immunology
Qualifications
- MD or PhD in Biochemistry or Biological sciences
- Experience in biomedical research. Expertise in gene targeting, protein analyses using latest molecular biology and immunology techniques; experience with in vivo CRISPR and single cell RNA sequencing is required.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge and experience in virology and flow cytometry
- Knowledge of clinical research protocols
- Skilled with statistical analyses
- Basic knowledge of analyzing bulk RNA sequencing data
