The Senior Planning/Scheduling Engineer supports EPC mega projects by developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules. This role involves collaborating with project teams, monitoring progress, identifying risks, and optimizing schedules.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 scheduling software
- Collaborate with project teams to develop detailed work plans for engineering, procurement, subcontracts, construction, and commissioning activities
- Monitor progress against schedules, timelines, and milestones, identifying schedule variances and risks
- Analyze schedule impacts of changes to project scope, resources, or priorities and develop mitigation strategies
- Prepare schedule reports and presentations to communicate schedule status and performance to project stakeholders
- Provide recommendations to optimize project schedules, including resource leveling, critical path analysis, and schedule compression
- Coordinate with project teams to resolve schedule-related issues and conflicts
- Participate in project meetings and reviews to provide schedule updates and recommendations
- Develop and report critical path plans and related schedules for projects under the direction of the Lead Planner
- Facilitate the preparation of the project plan and schedule, providing accurate and timely status updates
- Follow company's established standard processes, procedures, and formats for corporate reporting and deliverables
- Assist in the development of schedule breakdown structures and integration of P6 and Ecosys coding structures
- Prepare drafts of network logic diagrams and perform forward/backward pass assessments
- Compile, organize planning information, and prepare project schedule versions with varying levels of detail
- Review short-cycle schedule impacts and prepare CPM project schedule analysis
- Responsible for resource loading the project schedule
- Collect, validate, and integrate schedule and earned value progress information from vendors and contractors
- Perform detailed analysis on vendor and contractor schedules
- Prepare different tabular and graphical schedule timeline and resources reports as required
- Collect historical engineering, procurement and construction data for reporting, metrics, and performance analysis
- Perform schedule health checks and risk analysis
- Assist in the integration of project changes in the schedule forecast and in developing alternatives
- Attend project meetings and provide applicable reports
- Facilitate meetings with key project team members, vendors, and contractors to address and update project schedule status and forecast
- Provide proactive and accurate schedule management assessments to assist the project management team
Requirements
- Vast experience as a planning/scheduling engineer or project controls specialist in EPC mega projects (oil and gas, petrochemicals, industrial gases industries)
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software
- Proven experience in the application of project management principles and techniques (schedule development, resource management, earned value management, risk management/analysis)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
- Vast experience working as a planning/scheduling engineer or project controls specialist in EPC mega projects in the oil and gas, petrochemicals, and industrial gases industries, 15+ years of experience may be accepted in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
