The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for assessing and managing diverse patient populations within the Emergency Department, performing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and developing appropriate care plans. This role involves providing direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in various clinical settings including acute care, observation, and urgent care at Brigham and Women's Hospital and its affiliates. The PA is expected to consistently deliver high-quality and timely documentation, diagnose and treat illnesses, and collaborate with attending physicians and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings
- Perform complete histories and physical examinations
- Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Develop appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
- Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
- Consistently provide high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries
- Perform bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
- Conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses
- Counsel patients and interreact with family members and colleagues
Requirements
- Master's Degree Physician Assistant
- Physician Assistant State License
- Skilled in taking medical histories
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public
Qualifications
- Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
- Experience as a licensed Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant preferred; minimum two years of EM experience for independent clinical guidelines
Nice to Have
- Experience as a licensed Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant
