Physical Therapy Assistant

About This Role

Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist, documenting care and adhering to ethical and professional standards to support patient recovery.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to all patients under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist
• Document patient care in accordance with policies and procedures
• Follow directions and instructions for treatment and other tasks as directed by the Licensed Physical Therapist
• Follow ethics and standards as defined by the American Physical Therapy Association and Avera policy and procedures
• Follow practices and standards per the State Board of Medical Examiners for licensed physical therapy assistants
• Provide treatments to patients in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with the PT plan of care and physician’s orders
• Communicate with the therapist appropriately to ensure effective treatment
• Produce appropriate, specific, clinical documentation for patient care given
• Assist with scheduling and paperwork associated with patient care
• Document progress notes in accordance with departmental policies
• Charge patient appropriately for treatments given on a daily basis under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist
• Assist with paperwork activities, file charts, and other duties including billing, documentation, correspondence and file management
• Assist with clinical education of physical therapist assistant students

Requirements

• Active Physical Therapy Assistant license in the state of practice

Qualifications

• Associate's in Physical Therapy from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
• Less than 1 year of related experience and/or training
