This Phlebotomist role involves collecting and processing patient specimens, ensuring quality assurance and safety. The position supports The Woodlands, Texas location of Texas Oncology, contributing to a team that provides high-quality, individualized cancer care.
Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimens from patients as ordered
- Assure pre-authorizations and complete appropriate consent (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests
- Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure viability before using for patient collection
- Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in-house
- Process incoming orders for lab testing
- Process in-house and incoming reports
- Update and file all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs
- Properly identify and band patients for blood product transfusion, processing labeled specimens according to local blood bank policy
- Operate designated laboratory equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently; maintain equipment and work area as directed
- Perform waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel, recording proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrator, and reagents
- Comply with regulatory agency standards, adhering to OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures
- Properly dispose of hazardous materials
- Maintain a clean working environment and restock phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Entry level with no experience required for Level I. Level II requires 3 years, Senior Level requires 5+ years.
