Phlebotomist

About This Role

Perform venipunctures and related specimen collection tasks for laboratory testing, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation. This role involves professional patient interaction, maintaining work areas, and adhering to infection control protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to collect blood specimens as ordered
• Properly labels, logs, and processes specimens according to laboratory protocols
• Prepare collection trays and ensure the cleanliness and restocking of work areas
• Provide clear instructions to patients regarding collection procedures and tests
• Monitor patient condition during and after specimen collection to ensure safety
• Document specimen collection in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
• Assist with clerical tasks including filing, data entry, and managing patient records
• Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols in all patient interactions
• Respond to inquiries from patients, staff, and other departments regarding laboratory services
• Participate in training, quality assurance, and continuing education as required

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Six (6) months of acute care phlebotomy experience or one (1) year experience in outpatient lab setting preferred

Nice to Have

• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program
• Phlebotomy Certification
• Six (6) months of acute care phlebotomy experience or one (1) year experience in outpatient lab setting
