About This Role

This Phlebotomy Specialist plays a vital role in the diagnostic process by performing precise blood collections with a patient-first approach. They ensure comfort and accuracy, and accelerate critical laboratory turnaround times through expert specimen processing, directly impacting patient care decisions. The specialist also supports seamless laboratory operations with keen organizational and clerical skills.

Responsibilities

• Practice positive patient identification at all times
• Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions
• Establish and maintain good communication within the department and with other hospital departments
• Comply with isolation and hand sanitization procedures
• Follow blood collection procedures, performing venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations
• Utilize appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adhere to appropriate volume requirements
• Perform Blood Bank collections, following written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures
• Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations and storage rooms

Requirements

• High School diploma
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent time management skills
• American Heart Association BLS Provider certification within 90 days

Qualifications

• High School diploma

Nice to Have

• Phlebotomy certificate
• 3 months phlebotomy experience in an acute care facility
