This role empowers individuals with mental illness to achieve autonomy and advocate for themselves, guiding them through their recovery journey within Adult Community Clinical Services (ACCS). The specialist collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure person-centered care and maximize client choices in both community and residential settings.
Responsibilities
- Empower persons with mental illness to exercise autonomy in all aspects of their life and assist them in identifying choices and developing skills in self-advocacy
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure the person's perspective is always included, preferences are recognized, and choices are maximized
- Provide training and consultation to staff to facilitate the understanding of person perspectives as needed
- Provide guidance to persons in the recovery journey, offering advocacy, support, and education during intake and transition processes
- Assist persons with identifying personal methods of recovery from mental illness and developing self-management plans
- Promote hope and empowerment through meetings and support with persons
- Participate in the development of treatment plans, assisting and encouraging persons to communicate their personal recovery goals
- Ensure services are culturally competent, strengths-based, recovery-based, focused on rehabilitation, and inclusive of person preferences
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalence
- Lived experience and sustained recovery from mental illness
- Certification or ability to obtain peer certification
- Valid Massachusetts drivers license
