Patient Safety Attendant

About This Role

Perform continuous visual observation of patients to ensure their safety, provide diversionary activities, assist with nutritional needs, and report any changes in patient behavior to the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide diversionary activities such as reading aloud to the patient
• Assist the patient with nutrition needs as necessary under the direction of the Registered Nurse
• Accompany the patient to diagnostic testing and procedures and maintain observation during tests or procedures
• Never leave the patient alone unless instructed to by the nurse (never for Baker and Marchman Act patients)
• Receive and give report to the RN and oncoming Patient Safety Attendant
• Utilize the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients
• Observe for any changes in the patient’s behaviors or actions and immediately report them to the Registered Nurse
• Remain awake and alert at all times, avoiding distracting activities
• Maintain a clean and safe patient care environment
• Receive and process incoming calls, patient calls, and guest requests as appropriate

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Current CPR certification (HeartSaver CPR)
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification
