Patient Companion

About This Role

The patient companion provides continuous observation and care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients at risk of adverse events, ensuring their safety and well-being. This role involves direct patient observation as directed by nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under supervision of nursing staff
• Adhere to clinical policies and procedures when performing patient companion tasks
• Cope successfully with a variety of situations, personalities, and the changing work environment
• Demonstrate understanding of the importance of safety
• Communicate with patients respectfully concerning their age, culture, and education
• Only accept delegated tasks competent to perform, and communicate need for additional information, assistance or guidance
• Perform timely and accurate documentation as required by area of employment
• Greet patients and visitors with friendly manner upon arrival and orient them to the room/unit
• Apply the knowledge and skills needed to do the job
• Keep informed about practices, procedures, and new developments related to own work

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent
• BLS within 30 days of employment
• Excellent interpersonal skills

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred
