The patient companion provides continuous observation and care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients at risk of adverse events, ensuring their safety and well-being. This role involves direct patient observation as directed by nursing staff.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under supervision of nursing staff
- Adhere to clinical policies and procedures when performing patient companion tasks
- Cope successfully with a variety of situations, personalities, and the changing work environment
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of safety
- Communicate with patients respectfully concerning their age, culture, and education
- Only accept delegated tasks competent to perform, and communicate need for additional information, assistance or guidance
- Perform timely and accurate documentation as required by area of employment
- Greet patients and visitors with friendly manner upon arrival and orient them to the room/unit
- Apply the knowledge and skills needed to do the job
- Keep informed about practices, procedures, and new developments related to own work
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent
- BLS within 30 days of employment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred
